FAQS - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What is WHMIS?

WHMIS, which stands for the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, is a comprehensive national system for hazard communication in Canada.

It is designed to ensure that workers who work with or may be exposed to hazardous materials and chemicals as part of their work activities are aware of the hazards and know how to work safely with these products.

WHMIS provides information on hazardous products used in the workplace, including how to identify them, their associated hazards, and the necessary precautions for safe handling, storage, use, and disposal.

  • Who should attend this course?

In Canada, all workers must be educated and trained where hazardous products are present at the workplace.

Workers who handle or could encounter hazardous products during their tasks must understand the associated hazard information.

This includes those involved in using, storing, handling, or disposing of hazardous products, as well as those supervising or managing such workers.

Additionally, individuals engaged in emergency response activities should also be trained in hazardous product information.
